It's Been Ages!
Hi everyone, hope you all are doing well. I can't believe it has been so long since I have posted a blog! I apologise for the long wait and I hope you have enjoyed my previous posts and hopefully you will enjoy this one too.
Everything has gone by so fast, but I guess the biggest change that has happened in the past few months is that I have moved to England with my family after 20 years on-and-off living in my hometown in Scotland and I am now studying Songwriting at university in Bristol, which is absolutely amazing but also incredibly amazing! 5 years ago I was in a terrible state mentally and emotionally, and I can't believe after a long period of hard work I have finally gotten to university. If you are going to take anything away from this post, please take away this with you: you can do it! If a silly nugget like me can get to the other side, I know you guys can do! If you are passionate about what you are doing and have faith in yourself and the people around you, the storm will calm and everything will be ok. Cliche, I know, but I promise. I swear on my peanut butter-cup ice cream supply (and for me that's saying something!).
I think we all have something in our lives that makes us vulnerable, something that gets us where it really hurts and swallows us whole. I think everyone goes through hard times in their lives, because sadly that is how life works. But then we get these moments where everything seems to be going well, and then something happens and we feel our hearts drop; sometimes it changes your life forever, and sometimes it is something really non-important. It shouldn't affect us, but it does. Then when we talk to other people and they think you are just over-reacting, we feel partly guilty, even though we shouldn't because that is just how you feel.
Like any other young adult, I had a bit of a face slap this week, over something so silly and non-significant I shouldn't be talking about it! But in a way, I should be talking about it, as this is what we as a society should encourage; talking to people about our problems, no matter how big or small. It may sound silly to call someone and ask someone for a tissue when you found out that Vampire Diaries is airing it's final series this week (sob) but if it affects you and how you take on life, you should embrace it. We need to take care of ourselves, even if it means having that extra bit of chocolate syrup in your coffee or go over to a friend's place for a hug and a chat. Like a friend of mine once said: "We all need our prosecco and our taxi rides" now and again! You are a fantastic person, and you matter, so if you need that extra boost that will help you in a good way, I suggest you grab your karaoke microphone and head to the prosecco bar (if that tickles your fancy!).
Take care, and I am sending you all my deepest love and hugs from where I am to wherever you are.
Love,
Em x
