Letter to a 16 year-old Me!

Hi all! Hope you are all doing well and getting excited for Christmas, I know I am! As well as Christmas, I am hitting a big landmark this month, so I thought I would write a letter to my 16 year-old self, telling her all the things I wish I could have. If Posh Spice can do it for Vogue, I can do it too, right?

Hi 16-year-old me,

My heart breaks for you right now. I know you are going through a hellish time, and everything you have ever believed in is going to crack right in front of your eyes. However, that’s the most important thing to remember. You will crack, but you won’t break. You think you will, but I promise you won’t. You are going to do some amazing things in the next 5 years, let me tell you this!

I would keep the secrets but I know you are a spoiler addict, so I guess I can divulge a few details. First of all, you will cut your hair. And when I say cut, I mean most of what is on your head! You, however, are going to make this decision all by yourself, which is a huge deal. You are going to feel empowered and a little bit cold around the ears, but you’ll forget that you even had long hair after a while!

Also, your aspirations will change, and you will pursue a career in music, which is great for you as you’ve been singing since you came out of the womb! You will sing in front of people in public places (say goodbye to serenading your shower head) and you will use your words to write poems and eventually, songs. Though don’t ask me if famous people have approached you to give you a tweet because I’m sorry honey, but it’s a big fat no! Though I don’t know if it will happen in the future or not so keep dreaming for now!

Most importantly, you will be happy again. I swear on our collection of One Direction posters (yes, I went there!). This blanket of sadness and complete self-hatred that is ripping you apart will fade away and you will seize life and have fun once more. You have 3 friends who will become soul sisters to you, plus you will gain some more dear sisters along the way, and you will meet these girls in your darkest days and you will bond over the struggles you share. And of course, your family will be the reason you are still going. They aren’t just family anymore, your parents, brother and Woody will be woven into the fabric of your being, and no matter how long you live, you will always love them more than you will ever love anything in the world. Never lose your family and your sisters, we’ll never know what we did to deserve them but we are so blessed to have them in our lives, so you better bloody look after them Emma!!

Sending you loads of love, and I will see you in a few years.

Love,

20 year old Emma xx

P.S. About One Direction, let’s just say you are in the glory days of it, this is the peak of their career and your fangirl-ness! And all I will say is enjoy Zayn while you can!!

Take care everyone and sending you all loads of love!

Em x
