Looking After Your Mind.

Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well and that life is treating you well. I've been thinking about this subject a lot lately, and I thought this would be the perfect time and place to talk about it; the Internet is the biggest technological organism in the world and there is a current dip in emotional levels, with Christmas long behind us but the thought of sun bathing and bringing the shorts out of the attic is too disheartening to plan for.

Mental wellbeing is a vital part of our lives; in order for us to keep well and to look after others, it is important to keep your mind healthy. There are so many plans and regimes on how to keep your body healthy - which is also extremely important - but sadly we can't buy our brain a pair of mesh panelled sports leggings and tell it to go and stretch its hamstrings. It's curious how the internet and social media is filled with so many fitness and food blogs but you don't see the same number of accounts about how to keep your mind healthy on a day to day basis. Especially in low periods like this, we compare ourselves to others constantly, thinking about how life could be "better" if you had the life of a similar person, or constantly be happy and upbeat like another person.

But we shouldn't do this to ourselves. If we spend our lives constantly wishing for another brain or another mindset, we'll forget out own state of mind and how special our brains actually work. For even though we can all be a bit bonkers at times, the way we think, feel and react to things is totally unique to us as individuals, and we should't take that for granted. We only have one brain, we may not get another one so maybe we should embrace the one we have. Also, if there is something specific about the way we think that we wish could be different, we could try and adapt the way we think. For example, if Barbara has come to work with a new set of full-head blonde highlights when you are trying to hide your split hairs, instead of blocking all her selfies on social media, we could see what we could do to our hair; maybe we should embrace the Galaxy-Hepburn look and do a French knot, or go old school and tie an old tea towel around your head and pretend is a pure silk bonnet. My father, one of my dearest companions and my hero, used to say to me: "pretend you are a horse and put some blinkers around your eyes. Then, you can focus on what you want and what you are doing, without being distracted by everyone else around you". And he is totally right and very wise, as always.

I wish you all the very best with everything that's happening with you, and I hope my blog has helped you in any way possible over the years.

Lots of love,

Em x
